The weekly Michigan City Rotary Club Meeting is held at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, 101 W 2nd Street Michigan City, IN.

President Pat Boy called the meeting to order.

Announcements
The following announcements were made:

  1. John Regetz reported that there have been 25 guests brought to visit the club and 5 new members since the start of the membership drive.
  2. Jim Callaghan and Bill Gertner have officially been approved as new members. Welcome!!!  Jim and Bill.
  3. John reported Team Sperling is tied with Team Cipares – however, this may not be accurate.  The club was reminded that points are awarded for guests as well as new members and Lance Werner’s 5 million guests would place his team over the top.
  4. The winning team will split $$$$ and earn 2 make up meetings.
  5. John White was in attendance after a long absence – he announced, while sitting, how nice it was to see people he didn’t recognize and that he was “quite a talker” at one time in his life.  Great to see you John!!!
  6. Jim Welborne requested volunteers to participate in landscaping around the Zoo Rotary Castle.  Volunteers would plant flowers, donate $$ for purchasing flowers, and help care for the plants.  He encouraged club members to take part in this activity to promote the club through community exposure.
Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact Curt Cipares or Jim.
Eiluj Kainzow  suggested waiting until Earth Day when there would be additional bodies to help with the landscaping.
Since the club did not object to this idea, Jim will proceed to work out the details with the zoo.

Pat informed the club on the following:

  1. The Ambassadorial Scholarship was available if any member wanted to nominate a worthy candidate.
  2. Sign up sheets for the Rock The Lake District Conference were available.
  3. Knapp School will host a pancake breakfast 3/15/08 – supplies and help are needed. Pat requested a team of volunteers from Rotary.
  4. Thank-you notes were sent from Joy School, and Mullens School for the donated books.
  5. Saturday 2/16/2008 is the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon.  Team MC Rotary consisting of Curt and Lance are accepting donations.

Sarge

Jim Neff was Sarge for the Day

Student Guests included  - Jordan Niegos a Michigan City High School Senior who is active in basketball, golf, National Honor Society and many other organizations. Jordan plans on attending the only college that anyone should attend – Purdue University!!  And …. Stephanie Brown also a senior with Michigan City High School. Stephanie is the daughter of Dale and Tammy Brown.  She enjoys tennis and will also be attending the only college anyone should attend – Purdue University.

Other Visitors – Bob Roderick guest of Dolly Marshall and Mary Lake guest of John Lake.  Although Baby Christian Thomas’ name wasn’t on the list, he was present and more patient than any baby I’ve ever had.

There were many many, many, many announcements from various people and lots of $$$ donated for those announcements.

Dennis Boy won the raffle, but missed out on the important card.  The Queen of Hearts is now worth $731.60, and there are only 23 cards left in the deck.  Rotarians are invited to buy more than one of Jim Bell’s blue tickets.

Rita Dagys of PNC made a presentation on Honor the Earth – She is looking for volunteers to be on the committee.  Visit mcrotary.org for more information.
