Rotary Club Scholarship Targets Student “Service Above Self”

The Rotary Club of Michigan City is offering two scholarship awards this year to students eligible (in the geographical area) to attend Michigan City High School. The scholarships are funded by the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Michigan City in honor of J.M. Ruby, Robert Schwartz, and A.K. Smith, and are given to high school seniors who exemplify Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” in their lives and who are continuing their post-secondary education. The first scholarship provides $2,000 for each of two years (a total of $4,000). The second scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,000.

To be eligible for and receive these scholarships, a student must:

Have demonstrated “Service Above Self” in their community
Have a minimum of a “C” average in high school – class rank will not be considered in awarding these scholarships
Graduate from an accredited high school in La Porte County by June 30, 2008,
Be from the geographical area served by the Michigan City High School, and
Be continuing their post-secondary education beginning Fall of 2008.

The funds for these scholarships will be paid directly to the post-secondary educational institution which the applicants attend.

Applications are available from guidance counselors of the Duneland Lutheran High School, LaLumiere School, Marquette Catholic High School, Michigan City High School; and from the Michigan City Library. They also are available online by clicking here, or e-mail Pat Harris.

All applications and support letters must be postmarked no later than April 1 , 2010.
